Well, inspired by several forum posts from women unsure of how to develop their own style as well as my own style conundrum vis a vis my hair, I made a quick and dirty mood board.
I think I’ll bring it with me to my haircut appointment with a new stylist next week. While I’ve always brought in photographs and tried to tell a story about what I want in my hairstyle, I think this one, since it contains more info than “I want this hair cut” will be more effective. Especially with a first meeting followed by a major hair change. I’ll let you know the outcome after Tuesday.
Have you ever made a style mood board? Played with Polyvore? Done collage? Might be fun to do it again, or do your first one. Fascinating to analyze what the images you choose mean to you.

Yes, it is obsessive, this thing I have with my hair. Today I took 15 minutes to blow dry it, using only fingers to whip it back and forth a bit. Lathered with Organix Moroccan Oil conditioner, slathered with L’oreal Sleekening Styling Cream (in the round orange pump bottle), flattened with a Sally Hershberger spray wax, then squished down even more with Fx Molding Wax, which I usually use on wet hair. Yeah. No hold in my products, and yet my hair is oddly immovable. Sorta like newscaster hair.
Way too big, too round, too hard looking, in spite of avoiding all products with hold and desparately using things that are meant to impart smoothness, shine and movement. It just looks lifeless to me, and like the person to whom it belongs is likewise lifeless. I’m inching ever closer to a decision about style. Then I’ll have to make a decision on what stylist to do it for me. Sadly there aren’t a whole lot of options for me around here. Perhaps I’ll get it done when I’m visiting my mom on the east coast.
In the meantime, share with me your favorite styling tips. I could use a new trick or two!
